Tennis Club Finals

The club held two tournaments during September, the first held on Sunday 3rd September was for juniors and attracted an entry of 14 youngsters. In a round robin tournament each of the seven pairs played each other over five games and those two with the highest scores played the final (one long set). On a fine but bracing afternoon the standard of tennis was good and good humour and sportsmanship abounded. In a keenly fought final, last years winners, Mike Houldey and Alex Pett retained the trophy beating Richard Suckling and Matt Carpenter 6 - 3.

Not to be outdone by the youngsters the adult members of the club held their own tournament on Sunday 17th September. Though few in number (7 to be precise) everyone enjoyed a feast of tennis and a superb American tea with sausage rolls, sandwiches and cake. Needless to say everyone ate too much which is probably why the eventual winners were Nick Richardson and Sue Lawrance who beat Richard Pett and Simon Miller 6 - 3 in the final. Our thanks to Richard for his ingenious order of play and to Tina for her brilliant umpiring (she even dared to overrule one of Richard's line calls - heaven forbid!).
