Fête Day 2010

As dawn broke on this year's Longhope Community Fête, which is reputed to be the 91st, there was wall-to-wall sunshine. This didn't last all day however, and it soon clouded over, which by the time the Fête commenced, was a welcome sight, to cool what would have been a scorching sultry afternoon.

The walking procession followed behind a horse and a classic Citroen car carrying the guests of honour, Des and Sheila Halliday, who opened the proceedings. Behind this were other sports cars carrying the Fête Prince and Princesses. The Brownies won the group walkers prize and Phoebe and the Pirate Ship won the individual walker prize.

Hope Brook primary School had a display of country dancing and there was also a dog agility exhibition. The usual favourites were all there too with The Music Man, hog roast, tea-hut and wood-turning for example. A military tank turned up and had trouble squeezing through the Rec gates without removing the tarmac from Church Road!

There was no rain this year which proves our old adage, "it never rains on Longhope Fête"! There was a good turnout despite having to compete with the Wimbledon tennis and The World Cup. Thank you all for attending and to everyone who organised yet another successful Fête - long may it last.
