As many of you may or may not know, the Government is planning to sell, not just the Forest of Dean, many publically-owned woods and forests in the UK. The Public Bodies Bill currently being debated will enable the Government to sell all or parts of the Forest, potentially to commercial companies [1].
Many people of the Forest ("Foresters") enjoy certain rights, traditions and priviledges not underwritten by laws. Changes in ownership of the Forest will not guarantee these priviledges, neither will it guarantee the rights of walkers and cyclists to use and enjoy the Forest of Dean as we know it today.
