Three organisations have contacted me in the past month, all desperate for donated gardening tools (plus one which wanted DIY tools). Next time you're in the shed, see if you have any surplus tools which haven't been used for years and/or are never likely to be used. Let me know, and I will pass on your contact details to the relevant groups.
These people are claiming to be from Guide Dogs for the Blind. However, Guide Dogs DO NOT engage in door to door collections for cash. Their only door to door activity is signing up to Sponsor a Puppy and all staff will be in Guide Dogs uniform and will have a valid ID badge. If you suspect, or have been told of, any suspicious door to door activity, please call the new Police non-emergency number 101.
These organisations have joined together to present an Experience of technology that doesn't break the bank! Are you blind or partially sighted? Have you ever considered finding out about modern technology, but thought it too costly or way too complicated? Well, here is a chance to take part in a half day workshop which will provide an overview of zero and low cost access to computers, phones, give you the chance to taste Apple, receive advice and support on: products and software that can enable you to stay in touch with friends and family, shop on the internet, find information, read printed material.
This will also be an opportunity to share your views on how technology could benefit you and how we can support you to take advantage of the information super highway!

Debenham's store has become the first retailer to offer a service to blind and partially sighted customers. The service, providing Personal Shoppers, has benefited from working closely with the RNIB and will be available in all of the company's 167 stores in the UK and Ireland. Debenham's Personal Shoppers have undergone special training relating to the practicality of having reduced sight, trained in how to explain the touch and feel of garments, to describe heel height and style with reference to shoes and the functionality of garment fastening, etc. Call your local store for further details.
