There is to be a "Jubilee Party in the Park" (well the Rec really) to celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee. It is to be held on Friday 1st June from 6.30pm until late, at Longhope Recreation Ground. There will be the traditional Pig Roast, and Bar, and musical entertainment supplied by Drybrook Brass Band and other local artists. There will also be face painting, ice-cream and a bouncy castle - sounds messy!!
Tickets on the gate will be adults - £6 and children under 11 - £3.
Contact: Liz on 830947 or Trudy on 831614 for further information.
Also, to do with the Jubilee, there is a FREE edition of "The Forest Edge News"
being distributed to every house in the Parish in celebration of this special event,
and you should have received your copy by now - but if you haven't, don't complain to us!!
Carole Sleeman is the girl you need to call on 830069, who has been brilliant in
compiling this wonderful booklet, not just this month, but every month for hundreds
of years! So a big "thank you" to Carole. In recent months, this magazine has
also made it onto the internet as a "flip-book" for the small annual price of
£3, but is free to everyone just for this month, to give you all a taster.

Also, on Monday 4th June, there will be a Beacon being lit at 10.15pm on the top of May Hill as one of the 4000 beacons around the country. So if you fancy a stroll up there, be sure to take your torch and a drink (or two!) This event has only just been announced in Chinese Whispers, as it doesn't appear on the Queen's official site of Beacons at: www.diamondjubileebeacons.co.uk Other beacons are available!
