Not being an organisation to look a gift horse in the mouth, or should that be goat? The "Friends of Longhope Church" have accepted the very kind offer of Chris Turney at The Dick Whittington Farm Park to take over the facility for the morning of Sunday 30th June 2013 to host their very own "Family Fun Day".
Located just off the A4136 at Longhope, The Dick Whittington Farm Park has been a firm favourite for families for several years and offers the unique opportunity for children, of all ages, to play in a safe and well maintained environment and to experience farm life – both traditional farm animals and those from slightly further afield!!!
Chris Turney, the owner of The Dick Whittington Farm Park, said "Since it’s formation, the Farm Park has prided itself on not only offering children the chance to have fun, but also giving families the chance to learn and interact with the farm animals. Not all of the animals we have are ones that you would expect to find on a typical British farm, we are very proud of the number of rare breeds that we have, and the successful breeding programmes we have in place are testament to the knowledge of our staff and the environment in which we work and live."
Chris went on to add "...not all of the animals here are native to Britain, we have a herd of alpacas that, although becoming common place throughout Europe, where they are farmed for their wool, herald from South America." The Dick Whittington Farm Park also has a wide variety of birds and reptiles to view and the "Reptile & Insect Encounters" are a hit – usually, with all the family!!
Not only will all the usual features of the Farm Park be available on the day, but the "Friends of Longhope Church" will have their own stalls selling cakes, second hand books, bric-a-brac and much, much more. The parents can relax with a cup of coffee and a piece of cake and pick up some bargains along the way. All proceeds raised are being donated to the "Friends of Longhope Church". This group enables a wide range of people to share in the costs of maintaining the historic Grade II Listed Building, an important part of the village heritage, and to ensure the church building is in a reasonable condition to hand on to the next generation. Our current project is raising funds for tiling the aisle, hopefully it won’t be long before we can say goodbye to the blue carpet.
