At last it seems that the long awaited new school is going up, (as the photo on the left will prove). A large quantity of soil has been removed, and steel girders have been erected in recent weeks. The access road has been completed, including streetlights and landscaping, as well as the footpaths in Church Road.
Meanwhile, on the old Longhope School site, work is going on to make the condemned terrapin buildings habitable for the start of the new school year (see photo on right). There were rumours that these old buildings would be removed and replaced during the summer holidays, but the Education department considered it to be too costly and consequently not feasible. So the buildings are being re-roofed and painted! Let's hope they will hang on a bit longer.
