Work has stopped on the construction of the footpath in Church Road while the county council rethinks its plans. The idea of the footpath was in connection with the new school, allowing the pupils to be able to walk safely to the school instead of using cars, but it seems that it has made matters worse.
Local shopkeepers are unhappy because valuable parking space has been taken up by the footpath outside their businesses, and the narrowing of an already narrow Church Road has made the situation even more dangerous, especially on the blind corner at its junction with the Old Monmouth Road. A new plan has been agreed that involves using more dropped kerbs and colour highlighting, as a compromise to the concerns of the local residents and safety campaigners.
