Longhope Book Launch

Longhope is very fortunate to have many literary and graphic artists in the village and much of their work gets into print. The latest addition to these is Jo Phelps, who is famous for researching the history behind the names on the war memorial. Jo will be officially launching her new book, “Longhope’s Lion” this coming Friday 4th April, in The Latchen Rooms, at 7-30pm. Jo will be giving a presentation, and there will also be a display and refreshments. Admission will be free, but any donations are invited for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal please.

The new book has the following write up: “In the village of Longhope in Gloucestershire stands a statue of a lion, keeping watch over a list of more than forty names: men of the village who fought and fell in the First and Second World Wars. Every one of those names carries a story behind it; every one of those men had his own life, his own family and his own reason for joining the forces and sealing his fate. This book records those stories. Longhope's Lion is a tale of how men from a small village played a role in some of the most memorable actions of the twentieth century. It is also a tribute to just a few of the millions who set out to change the world and never came home; it is an assurance that their sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
