Battle of The Somme

On the first weekend in July (2nd and 3rd) Longhope will be commemorating the centenary of The Battle of The Somme. There will be an exhibition of artefacts, memorabilia, and photos from World War One at the church from 10am until 4pm on both days; some of it to do with the lads of Longhope who never came back. Also a display of artwork by the children of Hope Brook School. Refreshments will be provided. Saturday evening at 7.30pm, will see the return of the ever popular and talented Fiona Harrison in the Latchen Rooms, performing a selection of wartime songs. (Tickets are still available from Les Meadows or Tina Coull – see posters around the village.)

On the Sunday there will be a commemorative service in the church starting at 10.30am, also involving the Royal British Legion, and refreshments will again be available, kindly provided by the Friends of Longhope Church.
